Moisture and Mold Problems: Preventing and Solving Them in Your Home

Protect Your Car's Interior from Mold, Mildew & Odors

Do you collect or show cars? How about that old favorite you only take out for special road trips? You can help protect your car's interior condition from the damage caused by excess moisture by using the new moisture absorber called Dri-It®.

Dri-It® helps prevent mold and mildew from growing on car seats, especially leather car seats, also console covers, steering wheels, and carpeting by removing excess moisture from the car's interior. Speedometers and other instruments and car electronics are also protected from corrosion and rust due to Dri-It's ability to prevent condensation inside your closed automobile.

Simply distribute the suggested number of Dri-It pouches around the interior of your car and let Dri-It® do it's job! Moisture will penetrate through the printed label side of the Dri-It pouch, turn into a gel and be trapped inside the pouch. You can also place 1-2 pouches in your car trunk to keep it fresh and dry too! When the pouch gets full and feels completely ‘gel-like’, simply dispose in your standard residential waste and replace with a fresh pouch. Dri-It® is available in a 2-pouch resealable bag, thus allowing you to keep unused pouches dry until needed. If you are going to be storing your vehicle for a few months in varying temperatures (like in a garage or outside), putting a couple pouches on the rear shelf, under the front seats, on top of the front dashboard and even tucked underneath the speedometer console will help keep your car's interior dry and free from mold and mildew.

If your car is protected by a weather-resistant cover, moisture can get trapped underneath it and inside of your engine compartment. Place 4-6 pouches underneath the cover in places where the pouches will get airflow so they can help prevent condensation buildup under the cover. To give extra protection to the engine, place 2-3 pouches in the engine compartment to help protect against rust and corrosion. Be sure to remove all pouches from the compartment before the engine is started and do not place pouches directly on a hot engine.

Dri-It® is also good to use in your everyday vehicles. Simply keep a couple pouches of Dri-It® tucked under the front seats! Now, rather than your carpet soaking up all the excess moisture tracked into your car on rainy or snowy days and then just sitting there, the Dri-It pouches will work continuously to remove excess moisture from the car's interior air which will enable your carpeting to dry out quicker. And the quicker it dries out, the less chance of mold, mildew and their odors developing. Dri-It® also works in the hot, humid South. High humidity and high temperatures are the ideal breeding ground for molds and mildew. Dri-It pouches under the seat will help reduce the humidity levels inside your car, thus removing the conditions that can allow mold and mildew to develop.

The chart below provides a starting point for the number of pouches needed for different uses.
The ideal amount for your situation will vary depending on many factors, including your normal relative humidity levels; Corrosion/Rust starts forming at 45% RH and Mold & Mildew at 60% RH.
Storage volume is based on 50 cu. ft. (an area 5 ft. x 5 ft. x 2 ft.).

The actual amount needed will depend on your particular equipment, such as moisture retaining items like cloth seats or leather seats, carpeting, plush trim. etc.. If the vehicle is covered - is it stored in a garage, stored in a shed or out in the open, etc.. Please use the suggested amounts as a guide and adjust as needed.
